Crown Cleaning
Removal of dead, dying, diseased, and broken branches. This is the essential "health check" every tree needs to prevent decay and pest infestations.

Selective branch cutting for clearance, appearance, and long-term tree health. Protect your home, boost your curb appeal, and keep your trees storm-ready with expert pruning from the APPEX team.
Most homeowners don't think about tree trimming until a branch snaps onto their roof during a North Texas thunderstorm. But by then, the damage—and the repair bill—has already happened.
Untrimmed trees grow in ways that threaten your property:
Dead & Diseased Limbs: Brittle branches hang silently over your roof, vehicles, and play areas until gravity and wind bring them down.
Storm Vulnerability: Dense, overgrown canopies act like sails in high winds. Proper thinning lets wind pass through the tree instead of pushing it over.
Roof & Siding Damage: Branches rubbing against your shingles strip away protective granules, leading to leaks and expensive repairs.
Pest Highways: Limbs touching your roof give squirrels, raccoons, and ants a direct path into your attic.
Power Line Hazards: Branches growing into utility lines are a serious fire and outage risk—especially during ice storms.
Professional trimming isn't an expense. It's inexpensive insurance for your home.

At APPEX, we never "hack and slash." Every cut we make follows proper arboricultural practices to protect the health of your tree while achieving your goals.
Removal of dead, dying, diseased, and broken branches. This is the essential "health check" every tree needs to prevent decay and pest infestations.
Trimming lower limbs to clear driveways, sidewalks, fences, rooflines, and street signs. Reclaim safe clearance under your trees.
Selectively removing branches to increase airflow and light penetration. Thinned canopies dramatically reduce wind resistance and storm-breakage risk.
Cutting back branches hanging over or touching your roof, gutters, siding, and power lines to prevent damage and pest entry.
Selective, artistic trimming to open up a beautiful view of your landscape while preserving the natural shape and health of the tree.
Guiding the growth of young trees with proper cuts early in life. This prevents costly structural problems and removals 10–20 years down the road.
Pruning a tree in Oregon is not the same as pruning a tree in Texas. Species, climate, soil, and disease risks are completely different. APPEX specializes in the trees that actually grow in your yard:
Pruned with precision to preserve structure and minimize oak wilt transmission risk. Timing and cut placement matter here.
Large, heavy-limbed trees that need crown thinning to prevent limb failure during high winds and ice storms.
Drought-tough but prone to deadwood buildup. We clean the crown and reduce storm-load on heavy limbs.
Structurally weak and notorious for splitting. We assess whether pruning can extend its life—or recommend safe removal and native replacement.
Shaped and maintained for beauty, health, and long-term structural integrity.
"Trimming the wrong way, at the wrong time, can permanently damage a tree. We prune with the species, the season, and your property's safety in mind."

Before we climb, we protect your lawn, driveway, and landscaping with turf-friendly equipment and protective mats.
Our crew makes clean, proper cuts at the right locations—never topping, never leaving stubs that invite decay. Heavy limbs are carefully roped and lowered, never dropped.
We chip all brush, haul away debris (or leave wood chips as free mulch if you'd like), rake, and blow down the area. Your yard looks better than when we arrived.
Tree trimming is dangerous work. Our trained crew uses proper climbing and rigging techniques to protect your home, your family, and themselves.
We follow proper pruning practices—no topping, no flush cuts, no unnecessary damage. Every cut is made to help your tree thrive.
We never leave your yard covered in branches and sawdust. Full cleanup and debris removal are always included.
You get a clear, itemized estimate before work begins. No surprises, no hidden fees, no pressure.
Timing matters. Here's our seasonal guide for DFW homeowners:
Best time for most structural pruning while trees are dormant—before spring growth and storm season arrive.
Post-storm inspections and cleanup after severe North Texas thunderstorms. Remove broken or hanging limbs immediately.
Light trimming and deadwood removal. Avoid heavy pruning during peak heat and drought stress.
Final cleanup and crown thinning to prepare trees for winter ice storms and high winds.

Good pruning removes the right branches, in the right amount, at the right time. APPEX prunes to ANSI A300 standards and follows International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) guidance. The numbers below are the limits that guidance sets.
According to the ISA, generally no more than 25% of the crown should be removed at once, and less for mature trees. Younger trees tolerate heavier pruning than mature trees do.

The ISA notes that growth and wound closure are maximized when pruning happens before the spring growth flush. Heavy pruning just after that flush should be avoided, because the tree has just spent its energy on new leaves. That is why we schedule structural pruning in late winter (February–March).

Oak wilt can spread through fresh pruning wounds. The ISA advises that susceptible trees should not be pruned during active transmission periods. For Live Oaks in DFW, we plan timing and cut placement to keep that risk low.
ISA research shows topping can strip 50–100% of the leaf-bearing crown, starving the tree. The tree forces out weakly attached shoots that can grow up to 20 feet in a year. A topped tree can never fully regain its natural form.
Source: International Society of Arboriculture (ISA), “Why Topping Hurts Trees”
Yes. According to the ISA, preventive care before severe weather includes removing dead or defective branches, finding defects that weaken a tree, and correcting past topping. DFW sees spring supercells and occasional ice storms, so we recommend a late-winter (February–March) inspection.

| Technique | What it removes | Typical goal |
|---|---|---|
| Cleaning | Dead, dying, diseased, weakly attached and low-vigor branches | Reduce risk and improve health |
| Raising | Lower branches | Clearance for buildings, vehicles, pedestrians and views |
| Reduction | Leaders and branch ends, cut back to laterals at least 1/3 the stem diameter | Smaller height or spread, such as utility clearance |
| Reducing density (thinning) | Foliage at the crown edge | More wind and light through the canopy |
FAQ
Most mature trees in North Texas benefit from professional trimming every 2–3 years. Fast-growing species or trees near structures may need attention more often.
