Hiring With Confidence

How Do You Know a Tree Crew Is Qualified?

A qualified tree crew can show credentials, insurance and a written scope of work before anyone climbs. According to the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA), homeowners should run through a 9-point checklist before hiring an arborist. Our crew works to that same checklist on every job in Fort Worth, Arlington, Burleson and the wider DFW area.

  • Why does insurance matter for tree work?

According to ISA guidance, homeowners should ask for proof of insurance and call the insurance company to confirm it. APPEX carries 2 policies: General Liability and Workers' Compensation insurance. If a worker is hurt on your property or a branch damages your roof, you are protected.

  • Should you always take the lowest bid?

No. ISA guidance recommends getting at least 2 estimates, then comparing credentials and written specifications to find the best mix of price, scope, skill and professionalism. It also warns against people who go door to door offering bargains.

  • Why shouldn't homeowners do storm cleanup themselves?

The ISA's 4-step storm guide calls tree work after storms, especially debris cleanup, inherently dangerous. It involves working at height, freeing tree parts from buildings or utility lines, and running cutting machinery. That work should be done by a professional crew with the right safety equipment.

  • Which pruning practices should a qualified crew refuse?

Topping. ISA research shows it can remove 50–100% of a tree's leaf-bearing crown, and ISA guidance limits pruning to generally no more than 25% of the crown at once. A crew that offers to top your trees is not following industry standards.
